Middle School Spell-a-thon
Middle School students (Years 6 and 7) recently held a sponsored Spell-a-thon and raised a staggering 11,000 Dhs (almost US$3000). Some of that amount is going to help build a new location for Bright Stars School, Bangladesh and the rest is going to help a school in Malawi, Africa.

Wacky hair day
On Thursday, Student Council arranged a Wacky Hair Day as well as non uniform day.
Here are a couple of pictures of the wackier styles they came up with.

Racing tournament
Last night 28th March, saw the Great Racing Tournament at DIS. One of the students organised a car racing LAN competition. Students competed against each other on a race track and tried to set the fastest lap. Almost 20 students took turns racing against each other to record the fastest laps on circuits designed by RD and Ezekiel. They then progressed through to the quarter and semi finals, and more challenging courses - especially Ezekiel's dreaded maze!!.
Finally, just before 8pm we had the Grand finale with Ali, Julik and Mudassir. It was a very close race and Ali came out victorious. Julik was a close second and Mudassir in third place.
It was sponsored by two companies here : prizes were donated by Plugins Electronics (and also Mr Bastable), and snacks for the hungry competitors were provided by Spinney's.
In total 450Dhs was raised - well done organisers!

Year 9 V teachers soccer match
The Year 9 students challenged the teachers to a soccer match to raise money for K9 Friends - the players all gave a "donation", and spectators bought tickets for entry to the "stadium". The event was on Thursday the 22nd March. The amount raised was 575 Dhs.
Snacks were provided by a parent, and the match was a great success.
The final score was 5-1 to the teachers.

Car wash for K9 friends
Today the Year 11 students did a car wash of the staff cars to raise money for K9 Friends. They raised 640AED in just one hour!! Well done Year 11!!

K9 fundrasier
K9 Friends have been given an eviction order by their landlord, which means they have to leave where they are. They have over 120 dogs at the moment so they are having real problems. CatBoy, a DJ on Dubai 92, has started a campaign for schools and businesses to get involved and help them.
We have signed up and events will be happening before the 15th of March to raise awareness and funds for K9.
