What is CAS?

CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) is an essential component of the DP (Diploma Program) from the IBO. Check here for the IBO information about CAS.

Students are required to complete at least 150 hours of involvement over the two years they are studying the DP - however many students find that they spend a lot more than this on their involvement.

If a student does not complete their 150 hours over the two years, they cannot pass the DP.

Students should aim to complete approximately 50 hours for each area over the two years :

Creativity 50 hours
Action 50 hours
Service 50 hours

However there is some flexibility in this, so a student who has chosen an event which involves more service, would have more hours there, and less hours in another area but the total must be still at least 150 hours.

All the involvement by the students must be approved and signed for by a responsible adult - namely a teacher at DISD. The CAS coordinator will then need to verify that the student has in fact completed the hours he or she claims.
