K9 Friends Dog Show

The annual dog show took place at Nad Al Sheba and we had student volunteers from DIS helping with the K9 stalls.

Students helped on the book stall, registered the dogs for the dog show, walked the dogs, asked for donations, sold things for K9 and carried the pups around! All in all, it was a fantastic day and everyone enjoyed it, even if some people got a little bit sunburned!!

Well done everybody.

Congratulations to those who took part in the Terry Fox Run

We had loads of people take part in the Terry Fox Run on Friday 26th January.

We also had some volunteers who manned two tables and did an amazing job handing out over 1500 bottles of water to the participants who were walking, running, cycling, rollerblading etc etc.

Although I was unable to attend myself, some of the other teachers told me how amazing the students were - both the volunteers and all those who participated as well.

Well done everybody!

Al Noor visitors

Russell and Vera from Al Noor Centre for Special Needs Children came to visit the school today and Russell showed some of the woodwork and products he has made. He did a demonstration for the Years 10 and 11, and donated one of his pieces of work - a wooden house he designed and made, and even fitted with a solar panel to move a windmill at the side. He is keen to come here again and maybe teach a full class - he has already got ideas what he would like to teach the students!

Vera is in charge of the screen printing at Al Noor, and is keen to have students from DIS visit to see their screen printing facility.

Several students have offered to organise and run after school activities for other students. This is a new and very exciting CS adventure, and I am sure that the students will make a great go of it.

Welcome back to school

I hope you all had a great summer, and are feeling ready to take part in Community Service events.

I have been amazed at the number of students coming to me with ideas for CS events in the first week of school - already a great start.

There is a school magazine being planned, a Spanish club (organised by a student)is in the planning stages, and several students have volunteered to help out in the library.

This is going to be an incredible year for CS at the school - I can tell already.

Congratulations to everybody

Well done to all students and staff - especially in Lower School - who have made a fantastic start to Community Service from January to June. The Lower School has raised lots of money specifically for Bright Stars School, by arranging events such as a Sponsored Swim, Money Metre, and Wacky Hair Day. The whole school took part in International Day which had a Community Service aspect to it as well.

Upper School will also be organising lots of events next year, from September onwards, to help both the local community and also overseas organisations.
